Seth Woodard
Seth Woodard is a composer, arranger, marimbist, concert percussionist, and teacher. Originally from the small town of Page, Arizona, Seth began composing at a young age, in addition to studying percussion under Dr. Steve Hemphill (Flagstaff Symphony). After finishing High School, he moved to Boston in 2001 to study at the Berklee College of Music. While at Berklee, he studied composition, film scoring, production, and music editing under Richard Davis, Jonathan Klein, Eric Reasoner (Die Hard Trilogy, Speed, Last Action Hero), and James Smith. In addition to his composition studies, Seth continued his percussion journey under Nancy Zeltsman, Nanae Mimura, and Dean Anderson. During a 2 year hiatus from Berklee, he studied under J.B. Smith at Arizona State University, performing on 3 Convocation Concerts, multiple solo recitals, and as the Principal percussionist in the ASU Wind Symphony (in which he had the honor of playing under Gary W. Hill, Gunther Schuller, and Michael Daugherty).
Seth is in demand as a writer and arranger for small to large percussion ensembles all over the country. His music has been performed by colleges and high schools alike, and by several ensembles competing at the WGI Indoor Percussion World Championships . He is a Vic Firth endorser and a member of the Vic Firth Educational Team. Seth has been a percussion consultant and clinician since 2001, and is excited to be currently teaming up with the DCI Hall of Fame member Ralph Hardimon.
Returning to Berklee in 2004, Seth continued his marimba and composition studies while working towards receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Film Scoring. In the Spring of 2006, he gave his Senior Recital at the David Friend Recital Hall and graduated with honors in May.
Just graduating from the prestigious Berklee, Seth is now becoming "in-demand" for visual music and media of all kinds. His creative and fresh approach to live shows was put on display recently while performing at the Zeltsman Marimba Festival (nancyzeltsman.com/festival) where he performed 60 minutes of original/arranged music for marimba, percussion, and computers against a live, reacting visual backdrop. Seth's music has been used to promote the upcoming children's book "The Life of Reuben", and is currently teaming up with the corporate event team Renaissance Monkey .
